Helmholtz Sustainability Forum Working Group

Since April 2018, the Helmholtz Sustainability Working Group has been addressing a wide variety of issues related to economic, social and environmental sustainability and is developing Helmholtz into a sustainable research organisation from the top down. It is looking at the entire spectrum of areas for action identified in the LeNa report.

The Helmholtz Association and the Helmholtz Centres

The Helmholtz Association is committed to pursuing long-term research objectives on behalf of the state and society and to maintaining and improving people's livelihoods. To this end, we contribute to solutions to the most pressing questions facing society, science and business through programme-oriented cutting-edge research in six strategic areas. The association brings together 18 research centres focused on science and technology or medicine and biology. With more than 40,000 employees and an annual budget of 4.7 billion euros, the Helmholtz Association is the largest scientific organisation in Germany. They conduct cutting-edge research using the latest scientific infrastructure, especially large-scale equipment made available to the international scientific community. The Helmholtz research centres help solve the most pressing questions facing humankind, with a focus on six research fields: Energy; Earth & Environment; Health; Information; Aeronautics, Space & Transport; and Matter.
